The book, titled Ai Ai Gasa (meaning "sharing an umbrella"), features a compilation of four short stories by the novelist Izumi Kyōka.
The cover and frontispiece of were designed by Hashiguchi Goyō. The cover features a pattern of two birds sharing an umbrella, which subtly reflects the title of the book. The book also includes a Kuchi-e woodblock print created by the artist couple Ikeda Terukata and Ikeda Shōen.
