Swann, Peter C.

Canadian Art Historian and Author1921–1997

Peter C. Swann was an art historian, lecturer, and the author of various publications on East Asian art. He was also the Editor of "Oriental Art Review."

Peter C. Swann earned his M.A. in 1949 from Oxford University and has lived and travelled extensively in East Asia.

He is a former director of the Department of Eastern Art at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology in Oxford, England, director of the Royal Ontario Museum, and a professor of East Asian Studies at the University of Toronto in Canada.

He is the author of several books, including Chinese Painting (1958) and Hokusai (1960), as well as the Editor of Oriental Art Review.

In 1973, he was elected to the Royal Society of Arts.
