Roberts, Laurance P.
American Art Historian and Author1907–2002
Laurance Page Roberts was an Asian art scholar who had been director of the American Academy in Rome and the curator of Asian art at the Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York.
Laurance Page Roberts was a specialist in Oriental art. Following his graduation from Princeton University in 1929, his career included appointments at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum (first as Curator of Near and Far Eastern Art, then as Director), and the American Academy at Rome (Director).
He also served as organizer and first director of the New York State Council for the Arts and held honorary degrees from Princeton University and Union College.
