Robert Giusti is an American commercial artist and illustrator. He has designed album covers, book jackets, advertisements, magazine illustrations, posters, and packaging. Giusti taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York and has received awards from the Art Directors Club of New York, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Society of Illustrators, and other organizations.
Giusti, Robert George, was born on November 30, 1937 in Zurich, Switzerland. His family immigrated to the United States in 1939.
He is the son of the famous graphic designer George Giusti, who was a major influence and mentor to him.
Robert Giusti grew up in New York City and studied at the Tyler School of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He then attended Iowa State University in Ames and the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, where he received a BFA in Industrial Design.
After graduation, he became an illustrator for the advertising firm of Cunningham and Walsh before joining the art department at Random House as a graphic artist. He worked for the publisher for 12 years, eventually rising to the position of art director. He left Random House in 1973 to work as an independent illustrator.
Robert Giusti has painted album covers for CBS, Columbia, and Atlantic Records; book jackets for most of New York's major publishing houses; covers for Time magazine; advertisements for Barclay's Bank, IBM, and Xerox; magazine illustrations for Playboy and Penthouse; posters for the Cincinnati Zoo; and packaging designs for Celestial Seasonings herbal teas.
In 2013, the United States Postal Service commissioned Robert Giusti to design postage stamps featuring a series of colorful birds.
From 1976 to 1984, Robert Giusti taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
Robert Giusti has received awards from the Art Directors Club of New York, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Society of Illustrators, and other organizations.
